what is cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy, or cryosurgery, is a procedure used to freeze and destroy benign skin lesions.
It uses liquefied nitrous oxide to destroy the tissue by freezing the cell fluid. This forms ice shards that rupture the cell membrane, destroying the cell and the lesion.
Cryotherapy is quicker than many other treatments, and treating a lesion can take just seconds. It requires no anaesthetic and has minimal scarring. There are no limits on your activities, other than protecting the treated area from damage or abrasion, and you can return to normal activities after treatment.

-

What causes warts and verrucas?
Warts and verrucas are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which infects the top layer of the skin. It spreads through direct contact or by touching surfaces such as damp communal floors. They are common and usually harmless, but they can be stubborn.
How are warts removed?
The method depends on the type, size and location of the wart. Your practitioner will examine it at your appointment and recommend the most suitable approach. Some warts need more than one treatment.
Will the treatment hurt?
Some discomfort is possible, depending on the method used and where the wart is. Your practitioner will explain what to expect before they begin, and will stop or adjust if you are uncomfortable.
Can a wart come back after treatment?
Yes. The virus can remain in the skin, so warts sometimes return. Avoiding picking at warts and not sharing towels or footwear can help to reduce the chance of spreading them. Your practitioner will advise you on what to do if one returns.
Should I have a lump or spot checked before treatment?
Yes, if you are unsure. If a spot is changing in size, shape or colour, bleeding, or painful, please see your GP before booking treatment, as some other skin conditions can look like warts. Your practitioner will also check this at your appointment.
